Shane Carter: Program Director: Shane has taught English in Korea, Taiwan, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, the USA, and Kuwait. He has been a head teacher, level coordinator, and program director. He has a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics from Ohio University, and a BA in English from Ohio State University. "I enjoy travelling, reading, and meeting interesting people from all over the globe. After spending more than ten years living abroad, I have settled in Terre Haute. Working at INTERLINK is great because, with this job, the world comes to my front door. I hope to one day travel the world, but for now I am happy to spend time with my son, David, who is a very imaginative six year old.
Rachel Cowan,
Student Services Coordinator: Rachel has a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Indiana State University and plans to go for a Master's in a few years. Although she has not traveled outside of the United States, she hopes to visit a foreign country one day. Being the Student Services Coordinator and Administrative Assistant at INTERLINK is truly rewarding for her in that she gets to interact with staff and students in the education field AND meet people from other cultures. "I learn something new every day at INTERLINK," she says. "The most rewarding, yet hardest, part of my position is seeing the students graduate from the program. I am so proud of each student who worked so hard to learn English, yet it is hard to see them leave INTERLINK and move on with their academic careers."
Allison Newport, Instructor: Mrs. Newport
received her Bachelor's degree in Russian from the
University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Her Master's
degree is in Teaching English as a Second Language
from Ball State University in Muncie, IN.
Her experience includes teaching English to Costa
Ricans and Japanese and teaching at the Henry County
Youth Center in New Castle, IN. In her free time,
she enjoys reading, watching sports and playing in a
handbell choir.
Ron Engel,
Instructor: Ron has taught at Interlink in both Terre Haute, Indiana
and Greensboro, North Carolina. "Teaching English as
a Second Language has been a career that I have
really enjoyed. When I first started to teach, I had
the opportunity to work and live in Morocco, Spain,
and Mexico. Having had the opportunity to study,
travel, work, and live in places where the languages
and cultures are different from my own has been very
rewarding. Those experiences have helped me to
betterunderstand what my Interlink students are
experiencing. What I like
most about being a teacher at Interlink is the
contact that I am able to have with people who come
from so many different places and backgrounds."
David Karl, Instructor: Originally from Ohio, David spent over five years teaching English in Japan in the late 1990s before getting his master's in Linguistics/

wife, keep up with the news, read, listen to music, and play the
guitar. He's very interested in American pop culture, and he's
currently teaching a module on the history of rock music.
