Institutional Review Board

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a campus committee empowered by federal regulations to oversee research activities involving human subjects. The IRB is responsible for the review and monitoring of research involving human subjects in order to assure the protection of the rights and welfare of the subjects participating in research.

The IRB is dedicated to facilitating the ethical conduct of research. Indiana State University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) will begin using IRBNet on August 25, 2010 for the submission of all human subjects research studies. IRBNet is a web-based system of electronic tools to support the management, submission, review and administration of IRB protocols. Some of IRBNet’s many features include:

The IRB recognizes and appreciates the need to reduce manual and paper-based procedures, and to streamline protocol submission and the review processes throughout the research protocol life cycle. IRBNet was selected because of its many features and capabilities, including ease of use. In addition to being an intuitive system, IRBNet’s secure web-based solution is accessible anytime, anywhere.

It is important to note that as of August 25, 2010, all research studies being submitted to ISU’s IRB must be submitted electronically through IRBNet, which can be accessed at www.irbnet.org. Therefore, new protocols, continuations, modifications and other similar documentation will not be accepted on paper or via email after August 25.

Training sessions are currently being scheduled and will be posted to the IRB website, as well as being announced via Global email. In addition, the following links provide resources to get you started with IRBNet right away. IRBNet can be accessed at www.irbnet.org.
