Saturday instructors
Purpose
The Upward Bound is accepting applications from individuals interested in teaching periodical Saturday sessions. The core subject areas are:
- Mathematics
- Science (Life and Physical)
- Composition
- Foreign Languages
Additionally, Upward Bound will consider other areas outside of the core area. Upward Bound especially seeks to expose students to cultural events, academic programs, and other educational activities not usually available to disadvantaged youths.
Qualifications
- Teaching license in one or more of the aforementioned areas or,
- Current college/university faculty member in one or more of the aforementioned areas or,
- Current teaching major in one or more of the aforementioned areas with a junior or senior standing and a minimum GPA of 3.35 or,
- Current graduate assistant, and,
- Must have an understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of students from low income backgrounds and/or from families in which neither parent has earned a bachelor's degree
Preference will be given to currently licensed teachers and ISU faculty members. The Program especially seeks individuals who are able to effectively engage students in hands-on, thought-provoking, and innovative lectures and discussions.
availability
Throughout the Academic Year, the Upward Bound Program offers a total of nine Saturday sessions-- once a month. Saturday sessions begin at 9:00am and end at 12:00pm.
compensation
Compensation begins at $100.00 per Saturday session.
