The stipend requirements for the 2011-2012 academic year remains the same. Students are eligible to receive up to $40.00/month for their successful participation in Upward Bound.
Students can earn $20 for attending and fully participating in a Saturday Session once a month.
Throughout each month, students will need to complete at least 3 of the Supplemental Sessions listed above in order to receive a $20 stipend. Please note that the Upward Bound program will not prorate this requirement. In other words, a student will not receive a reduced stipend if he/she attends only one or two sessions.
Students who are on Academic Probation must attend at least three tutoring/homework assistance sessions as their Supplemental Sessions
Because the primary function of Upward Bound is to prepare students for post secondary education, participants are expected to maintain a standard for academic performance. All Upward Bound participants must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least a 2.00. Upon completion of each term, any student whose GPA is below a 2.00 may be placed on academic probation. Being placed on Academic Probation carries with it the following requirements:
Academic tutoring for subject in which the student has less than a "C" average is mandatory While such students are eligible to participate in any Supplemental Session, they must attend at least three tutoring and/or homework assistance session each month while they are on Academic Probation in order to receive stipends. (Tutoring Form)
If the student's school does not offer tutoring in the required subject, the student is expected to contact his/her teacher for academic assistance. If this is not successful, the student is expected to be proactive and contact an Upward Bound staff member for further assistance.
The student must attend Monthly Meetings with an Upward Bound staff member to monitor the student's academic progress
Students on Academic probation are not eligible to participate in any Upward Bound field trip, including college visits.
Students who cannot or will not take the required steps to improve academically, at the discretion of the program Director may be suspended or dismissed from the Program.
