I am currently a junior majoring in
Biochemistry and Philosophy.
After graduation, I plan on attaining an M.D. / Ph. D. in Oncology and
Biochemistry. I am very
interested in studying the effects of tumor proteins on the development
of new blood vessels. The
process of forming new blood vessels is called angiogenesis, which is a
critical aspect of tumor development. My mentor, my lab, and I are trying to find the chemical
mechanism for angiogenesis so that we can shut off the blood supply to
cancer, decreasing the size of the tumor and preventing the spread of
cancerous cells to other parts of the body. My project is currently focused on hormone based cancers, in
particular prostate adenocarcinoma.

I have a deep love of learning and the
sciences. I am an active
member of the Philosophy Club, Pre-Medical Student Association,
University Honors Student Association, American Chemical Society Student
Affiliates, Rhoads Hall Council and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. I am a teaching assistant for the chemistry department and an
Honors Peer Advisor for the University Honors Program. I volunteer my time at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum and
Little Sisters of the Poor when I’m not doing research. If I get to have free time, I enjoy spending time with friends,
watching movies, surfing Facebook, wasting brain cells on video games,
and rocking out my iTunes.
