Community Music Center
Since
1985, the Community Music Center has offered community children
and adults high quality beginning, intermediate, and advanced music
instruction. A division of the Department of Music at Indiana State
University, accredited by the National Association of Schools of
Music (NASM), the center offers professional instruction in voice,
Musikgarten preschool classes, and all instrumental areas. For more

Benefits of Music Study
Early music experiences enhance overall physical, emotional, language/cognitive,
social, and musical development. Research has shown that prolonged
involvement in music experiences enhances:

- intensifies higher brain functions required for other academic
activities

Early Childhood Learning - Musikgarten - an age-appropriate musical experience for children
from brith to eight years of age which includes parental involvement.

Faculty
Trained music instructors from ISU’s Department of Music
and graduate students and upperclassmen who have satisfied certain
course requirements teach the weekly 60-minute, 45-minute, or 30-minute
lessons.

- Musical Games Library including music games and rhythm instruments
All lessons and Community Music Center activities take place in
the Center for Performing and Fine Arts and the Fine Arts Building
on the campus of Indiana State University. All Musikgarten classes
are held at ISU’s University Hall, Room 114.
Policies
Tuition is for enrollment for the entire semester. Semesters run
simultaneously with Indiana State University calendar. For your
convenience, tuition may be paid in a single sum each semester or
in two equal payments.
Tuition does not include the cost of instrument rental or music
purchase. Supplemental group lessons, master classes, etc. are given
at the discretion of the instructor.
30-minute private lesson…………$288.00

- Fall and Spring semesters follow the ISU academic calendar
- Families with more than one child enrolled in private lessons in the same semester will receive a $25 discount
- Enrollment in the Community Music Center is a semester long
obligation. If it is necessary to withdraw from a course mid-semester,
the student is still responsible for the second tuition payment.
- Students not displaying satisfactory progress from lack of
practice or whose behavior and/or attitude are not conducive to
progress may be dismissed from the program. A one-month trial
period with notification will precede lesson termination.
- HOLIDAYS: Our academic schedule runs consistent with the ISU
calendar. For this reason, we are unable to reschedule any lessons
missed due to calendar holidays.
- All students are encouraged to perform in the Community Music
Center recitals at the end of the term, selected local festivals,
and monthly musicales.
- Students are expected to bring all books currently being used
to their lesson. Lessons may be cut short if a student does not
arrive with books or instrument.
- MISSED LESSONS: No make-up lessons will be given with the exception
of sudden extreme weather conditions that may threaten the safety
of a student. All lessons missed by the teacher will be rescheduled.
If the private teacher cannot be contacted, please leave a message
with Lynette Browne (237-2739). Event cancellations due to inclement
weather will be announced on the outgoing message of the Community
Music Center voice mail (237-2739).

- Piano Camps Dates and Levels:
- July 7-11, 2008 Intermediate Camp (ages 10 – 14 with 3-4 years of piano study)
- July 14-18, 2008 Early Level Camps (ages 7-10 with 1 – 2 years of piano study)
- July 21-25,2008 Beginner Camp (ages 6-9 with no prior piano study)
ISU piano camps offer students a chance to begin or continue their musical study during the summer in a fun, group environment. All camps are held in a high-tech Yamaha Clavinova lab, giving the students a chance to learn about the digital and electronic capabilities of that instrument. Students will study music theory and music history, and will learn both solo literature and duets/ensembles. Every day will include a mid-morning snack and a video about music. Older students will also gain experience in sequencing tracks of music on the Clavinovas. Each camp concludes with a showcase on Friday for families and friends. Camps are led by Dr. Lynette Browne of the ISU music faculty. Deadline for registration is one week prior to the start of each camp. All camps run 9 a.m. to 12 noon Monday through Friday. The cost for one week is $100 which includes all music and materials used in class.
Camps are held on the ISU campus, Fine Arts Building, room 316.
June 16 – 20, 2008. A music and nature camp for children ages 4-7. Camp runs 9 – noon each day and is held in the Fine Arts Building, room 409. Children will sing, dance, play instruments, have arts and crafts, and a snack each day. Camp will include nature immersion activities, with each day’s topic being a different part of nature. Friday will include a “Summer Celebration” with parents and siblings invited. Cost for the week is $125 which includes all materials used in class and taken home. Camp will be led by Dr. Lynette Browne of the ISU music faculty.

Welcome to the exciting world of music lessons! I am so thrilled
to be a part of a growing, thriving, nurturing music environment.
We have students of all ages and abilities, from birth to
retired adults. We can provide music lessons on almost any instrument
you are looking for. We take pride in offering quality instruction
to all our students. One of my goals is to maintain good communication
between myself, teachers, students, and parents. If at any time
