Alex Lapins
Alex Lapins teaches euphonium, tuba and chamber music at Indiana State University, and performs with the ISU Faculty Brass
Quintet and the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. Also an instructor at the University of Indianapolis, Alex has taught at the Blue Lake Fine Arts
Camp, Indiana University, the University of Michigan All-State Program at Interlochen, the Detroit Symphony Civic Orchestra, and the French Woods
Fine Arts Camp.
Mr. Lapins is a busy performer throughout central Indiana. Along with the Terre Haute Symphony, he is principal tubist of the Lafayette Symphony
Orchestra and the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic Orchestra. Alex is a first-call recording session musician in Indianapolis, and frequently
performs as substitute or extra tubist with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra. Other performances
include the Chicago, Cincinnati and Charleston Symphony orchestras, the Guy Lombardo Orchestra and the New Sousa Band. A member of the Columbus
and Resurrection Brass Quintets, Alex has also performs with the Harvey Phillips Tubacompany.
Mr. Lapins has twice been invited to participate with Spoleto USA, and was the 2004 Tanglewood Music Center tuba fellow. He has also been the
tubist for the Henry Mancini Institute, AIMS in Graz, the Trujillo Festival, the Sunflower Chamber Music Festival, the Rome Festival and the
Disney Collegiate All-Star Band.
Mr. Lapins has performed in China, Peru, Austria, Italy and all over the United States, under the batons of such conductors as Mario Venzago,
Jack Everly, Erich Kunzel, James Levine, Seiji Ozawa, Quincy Jones, Kurt Masur, Christoph von Dohnanyi, Robert Spano, Bobby McFerrin, James
Kirchenbauer, Alan Silvestri and John Williams.
Primary studies have been with Daniel Perantoni, Fritz Kaenzig, Kevin Stees, Tony Kniffen, and Mike Bunn. Additional inspiration has come from
Gene Pokorny, Mike Roylance and Dave Fedderly.
Currently a performance Doctoral Candidate at Indiana University, where he was teaching assistant to renowned pedagogue Daniel Perantoni, Mr.
Lapins has an MM in music performance from the University of Michigan and a BM in music industry from James Madison University.
