Great American Songbook concert showcases singers and songwriters

In a celebration of great songwriters, and singers, faculty and students of Indiana State University's School of Music will bring to life a collection of well-loved standards, backed by a jazz combo during a performance at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27 in the University Hall Theater.

The program, part of the College of Arts and Sciences Community Semester Series, will pay homage to Indiana icons Cole Porter and Hoagy Carmichael, as well as songwriters Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and Harold Arlen among others.

The recital will feature the vocal talents of six School of Music students - Trenton Baker, Shaina Moore, Mackenzie Tank and Kailey Turner as well as music faculty members Mark Carlisle, Colleen Davis and Christine Boone.

Faculty performing throughout the evening include Jimmy Finnie, percussion; Todd Gallagher, bass; Randy Mitchell, trombone; Rob Waugh, trumpet; Tim Doyle, guitar and Ted Piechocinski, alto saxophone and John Spicknall on piano.

The evening will include works such as "Over the Rainbow," "The Very Thought of You," "The Man I Love,""Unforgettable," "My Funny Valentine," "Skylark," "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "Time After Time."

The concert is made possible by the generous support of David and Geraldine Mitchell and WFIU.
