Piano recital set for Oct. 7 at Indiana State

September 29, 2014

Beverley Simms, professor of music at Indiana State University, will present a solo piano recital 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Richard G. Landini Center for Performing and Fine Arts' recital hall.

Simms will perform piano music by William Albright and William Bolcom, composers who were affectionately known as "The Bills" by their colleagues at the University of Michigan. Both composers have eclectic styles, and both were instrumental in the revival of the music of Scott Joplin during the mid-20th century.

Simms will perform several suites of short works by Bolcom and Albright, including "Bird Spirits," "New Leaves," "Nine New Bagatelles," "The Machine Age" and "Brass Knuckles."

The recital is free and open to the public.
