Indiana State to hold two ceremonies for spring commencement

February 10, 2015

Indiana State University has announced a schedule for this year's spring commencement that will allow more people to attend the May 9 event at Hulman Center.

This year, for the first time, there will be two ceremonies. Students completing degrees in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Bayh College of Education will be recognized at 10 a.m. Students from the College of Technology; College of Nursing, Health, and Human Services; and Scott College of Business will participate in a 2 p.m. ceremony.

Those completing advanced degrees from the College of Graduate and Professional Studies will participate in the ceremony of their respective affiliated college. Tickets will not be required for those wishing to attend.

"As the number of graduates has increased in recent years, so has the number of friends and family members who want to share firsthand in the excitement of commencement," said Jack Maynard, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. "Many colleges and universities have multiple graduation ceremonies. We are fortunate to have a facility such as Hulman Center that enables to accommodate spring commencement with two ceremonies.

Individual colleges will move their traditional early morning receptions for graduates to mid-day. The morning program will feature a student speaker from either the College of Arts and Sciences or Bayh College of Education while the afternoon program will feature a student from the College of Technology; College of Nursing, Health, and Human Services; or Scott College of Business. A single alumni speaker will address both groups of students.

For those unable to attend, both ceremonies will be streamed live on the university website, www.indstate.edu.
