State grad named Indiana College Intern of the Year

March 5, 2015

Indiana State University graduate Charisa Scott was named INTERNnet College Intern of the Year for her work with Covance Central Laboratory Services in Indianapolis.

Scott, of Marshall, Ill., was a Focus Indiana Scholarship recipient. She began working with Covance as the client coordinator intern in May and completed her undergraduate degree in health sciences in August.

"My main project for the summer was to design and implement a SharePoint site for the global client coordinator team," Scott said. "Also, during my time as an intern, I spearheaded the pilot phase of a process improvement initiative and helped raise over $3,000 for the CARE Nepal fundraising project."

Scott's internship supervisor, Deidre Horton, nominated her for the award. Horton stated in her nomination letter that Scott's "strong work ethic, dedication to providing high quality deliverables, ability to take the initiative and lead when appropriate, along with her engaging and positive ‘can do' attitude made her stand out quickly."

Upon completion of her internship, Scott was offered a full time position as client coordinator at Covance.

"This internship helped me grow professionally and provided me with an opportunity to dive into a world that I may have never considered prior to my experience at Covance," she said.

Through her internship she "not only learn[ed] about professionalism, but was able to learn how to communicate in a global atmosphere," she said.

A graduate of Marshall High School, Scott is pursuing an MBA in health care administration at Indiana Wesleyan University.

This marks the second straight year an Indiana State graduate has received the College Intern of the Year Award. Sarah Mihich of Munster received the 2014 award for her work with ArtSpaces Inc. in Terre Haute.
