Indiana State alumnus establishes endowment for fraternity

October 17, 2018

An Indiana State University alumnus' homecoming on Oct. 13 brought with it a $25,000 gift for the Chi Sigma chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

The donation by Lindsey Montgomery, '86, will be used to establish the Chi Sigma Student Leadership and Alumni Memorial Endowed Fund to support members of Indiana State's Chi Sigma chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity as the men earn their degrees from the university.

"We have several chapters in Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. that have already established an endowment account at their respective universities, and this was the right time to give back to the university," Montgomery said. "We hope that each undergraduate brother will receive a stipend from the interest gained only and help with tuition, books, room and board cost as they work towards a degree."

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Montgomery earned his degree in business administration and worked for 25 years as an auditor for the Pentagon Federal Credit Union. While attending Indiana State on a football scholarship, he was an active member of the Chi Sigma chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

"The Division of Student Affairs and Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life are appreciative of this gift from Mr. Montgomery. His gift is a testament to the importance of providing our students with transformative student life experiences while enrolled at Indiana State University," said Willie Banks, vice president of student affairs. "This gift also speaks to the important role our alumni play in helping shape the collegiate experience for our undergraduate students. We are thrilled that Mr. Montgomery is giving back to his alma mater in such a significant way."
