Michael Anthony Enwereuzo would like to thank the 2011-2012 scholarship committee, nursing faculty and staff. and others who made it possible for him to receive this scholarship. Michael Anthony is an immigrant from Nigeria. He has an academic background in chemistry, being the only person in the family to attain school, continues to aspire for better academic opportunity especially in America which led him to a career in nursing. Michael Anthony has consistently pursued his education for the last 10 years since he immigrated to the USA starting with a career as a pharmacy technician, then as an LVN and now a BS Nursing student. Combining obtaining an education with raising a family and taking care of an aging parent is a tough challenge. He is sincerely glad to receive this generous scholarship. Michael's goal is to earn an advanced degree in nursing so that he can either teach or pursue research in nursing.
Yalew Gebrehana lives in San Jose, California and is originally from Africa, Ethiopia. He is married and has three children, two boys 11 and 9 and a girl 9 years old. Currently Yalew is working as an LVN for a home care organization and he has an academic back ground in computer programming. He would like to thank those who so generously made the Lee Rees Scholarship available to him and the other students who have received this scholarship. Yalew is a distance learning student who is a nursing major in the final year of the baccalaureate nursing program. He plans to pursue an MSN with an emphasis on Geriatrics. He feels like he is one step closer to his goal and he promises he will work diligently and eventually help others particularly those need of help. Yalew says, "Thank you so much again for your generosity."
Michael Jenkins is in the distance education program pursuing his BS with a major in nursing. He has been an LVN in California for almost two years, working in Congestive Heart Failure and General Cardiology. He hopes to complete his BS in 2013 and go on to become a CRNA. He appreciates the help he has received and would like to thank the scholarship selection committee for the generous gift they have provided to help him in his studies.
Paula Kerrutt is currently enrolled in a distance education track, pursuing a second degree majoring in Nursing. She currently holds a BS Degree in Psychology and she plans to complete the nursing degree in 2013. After the program completion she intends to pursue employment in the public health nursing field, hoping to one day affect public health policy in a positive way. She sincerely wants to thank the Lee Rees Scholarship donors for their generous gift. It is an honor to be chosen and she graciously accepts this scholarship.
Miyoung Lee lives in Sacramento, CA and currently works as a home health case manager and in a mental health treatment center as a psychiatric nurse. She has been working as an RN for 10 years in an ICU, convalescent facility, hospice care, and mental health center. From her career experience, she feels the more she works as a nurse, the better care she can provide to patients. Miyoung is honored to get the Lee Rees scholarship. After she finishs the RN-BS track of the baccalaureate nursing program, she wants to pursue a master’s degree. Her goal is to use her education and career experience to give back to the community someday.
Rebeca M. Lee lives in Chesapeake, Virginia and is married to her husband Patrick Lee for 29 years and they have two sons Sean (28) and Patrick (26). Rebeca graduated from the Central School of Practical Nursing in Norfolk, Virginia in 1991. She worked at the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters for almost 12 years in various positions including staff nurse, office nurse, after hour triage, IT department, as well as Practice Manager. Rebeca left Children's Hospital to pursue a career in pharmaceutical research and is a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator. Rebeca has worked as the Primary Nurse-Unit Manager at St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children for the past year. Her goal is to complete her BS with a major in nursing in 2012 and start working towards obtaining her Masters in Nursing specializing in pediatrics.
Amy Sandoval lives in West Sacramento, California. She is married to a wonderful and very supportive husband and together they have 5 children ages 15,14,12, 4, and 2. She has been in the medical field since age 17 and has continually advanced her education from Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Licensed Vocational Nurse, now pursuing her Bachelor of Science with a major in Nursing. She has worked in many different areas; Nursing homes as CNA and Charge Nurse, Medical Office as a medical assistant assisting with minor in office surgical procedures, Hospital as CNA and LVN, Home Care with Quadriplegics on ventilators. Amy has known that the medical field was her calling from a young age and loves being able to help her patients feel better and make them feel comfortable.
