Dr Tennyson Mgutshini gained his primary nurse qualification from Southbank University (UK) in 1995. He also holds a first-class Bachelors with Honors in Community Nursing from Brunel University (UK), a Masters (with Distinction) from Brunel University (UK) and a Doctoral degree from Brunel University (UK). He also holds post graduate qualifications in Nurse Education, Public Health & Health Promotion. He has worked in a range of roles in academia, health service management and as a specialist practitioner in psychiatric nursing in the United Kingdom. He has collaborated internationally with health services and Universities in New Zealand, South Africa, The United Kingdom and Zimbabwe.
He has been at ISU since Spring 2008 and currently teaches online in the RN-BS track of the baccalaureate degree nursing program, Courses taught include NURS 322, and NURS 470. His specific expertise is in specialist psychiatric nursing, public health, community health, management and qualitative research methodologies.
Dr. Mgutshini’s research interests are primarily in the areas of consumerism and health behaviors, specifically focused on risk factors associated with frequent psychiatric hospitalization. His professional memberships include: Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and The Royal College of Nursing (UK).
