  About OIT

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides technology-based solutions and services that support the academic, service, and administrative activities of Indiana State University (ISU). We partner with constituents in all areas to enable the efficient and effective use of campus resources, to promote innovation in research and teaching, and to foster the growth and success of our students.

OIT is the campus leader in identifying, implementing and supporting technologies, services and practices that support the strategic priorities and daily operations of ISU.

Our goals at any point in time may be characterized in two dimensions:

Strategic relevance

Operational excellence

OIT is currently developing a plan for the next three to five years, intended to develop goals that support and complement the campus strategic plan that is also under development.

OIT Organization
OIT is currently organized around major areas of technology services:  end user support, enterprise application support, and infrastructure support.   These areas naturally focus expertise and knowledge in certain ways.  However, we strive for an environment within OIT that emphasizes communication, collaboration, and close working relationships so that organizational lines developed for practical management and planning purposes do not become barriers when it comes to service delivery.

Governance and Advisory Structure
Our governance and advisory structure is intended to support OIT and campus objectives related to:

  1. Obtaining approval and funding for major IT infrastructure and enterprise application needs
  2. Communicating with our constituencies about OIT support levels and activities, and about major technologies available in the environment, as well as about environmental changes that impact the approaches we take and the technology and support we provide
  3. Gathering input to shape OIT’s direction and choices
  4. Overall assessment of OIT’s efforts

Our campus IT governance and advisory structure is pictured >>here<<.

Major elements of this structure include:

  1. An operations level that allows for communication to and inputs from a broad group of campus constituents
  2. Recognized pathways associated with different technology needs, e.g. administration,  academics, infrastructure
  3. A regular and periodic planning activity that brings needs together and results in the formulation of tactical plans to drive major funding and approval discussions
  4. Senior administration involvement in major decisions, and senior administration awareness of institutional needs and OIT’s overall level of operational success
