There are five distance
education classrooms across the ISU campus: two in Dreiser Hall, and
one each in the College of Technology, College of Education and the
College of Nursing. A distance education classroom is defined by
being equipped with cameras and microphones that allow the
instruction in the classroom to be delivered live to students
watching at remote sites across the state, nation, or globe. Each
classroom is connected via fiber to a central switch that enables
each room to be connected to various delivery systems: IHETS
satellite, IP videoconferencing codecs, (video streaming), or other
classrooms. All classrooms are staffed with a student worker who
supports the instructor by operating the technology leaving the
instructor to focus on teaching and learning.
In addition to live, synchronous instruction, the classrooms may be
used to record instruction for asynchronous purposes: video
delivered via a link on a course web site, DVD, CD-ROM, or VHS
videotape.
Views of the classrooms are available online. These classrooms are
scheduled through User Services in the Office of Information
Technology.
