Recreation Management & youth leadership

Are you looking for a major that is exciting, meaningful and expands your horizons?

The Recreation Management and Youth Leadership concentration in the Recreation and Sport Management Major will prepare you to work in a variety of settings with adults and youth as they pursue healthier, happier lives through recreation, leisure and sport.

As a profession, Recreation Management covers a lot of territory. There are careers in all levels of government, non-profit community service agencies, commercial recreation related industries, employee wellness, camps, outdoor adventure, tourism, hospitality, and much more. While providing opportunities for individuals and families to lead healthy, balanced lives, the recreation and leisure fields significantly impact the identity and well-being of our communities and the broader culture. It has been said that a society is judged not by what it produces from labor, but by how it chooses to use its leisure time. And everyone thought we were just having fun... Fun with a purpose.

There are numerous challenges facing young people that impact important areas of their lives. Youth workers positively impact these areas, which include physical and mental wellbeing, family and friendship networks, and constructive recreation and leisure pursuits. The United States and most developed countries around the world are experiencing shortages of qualified and dedicated youth leaders and youth workers. There are tremendous opportunities for well prepared graduates to begin exciting and rewarding careers working with youth.
