Hotel Cassiopeia
by Charles L. Mee, Jr. and directed by Chris Berchild
Performances will be September 24 - 27, 2008
Hotel Cassiopeia, written by Charles Mee and directed by Dr. Christopher
Berchild, will be performed by the ISU Theater Department. Performances
begin Wednesday, September 24 at 7:30 pm and continue September 25, 26,
and 27th in the New Theater. The American artist Joseph Cornell made
wooden boxes filled with pocket watches, coiled springs, maps of the
stars, a forest of thimbles, parrots, seashells, broken glass,
children's alphabet blocks, brightly colored balls, soap bubbles,
whales' teeth, a colored lithograph of the moon in the night sky, and
star fish. How would it be if those boxes could speak? About art, about
America, about compassion and longing and loneliness and heartbreak. As
Cornell’s creations interact with him, the audience is forced to ask
the question: Does the man make the art or does the art make the man?
Tickets are $7 for the general public. Admission is free to ISU students
with ID. The New Theater box office is open during the week of
performances from Noon-4:30 on weekdays. It will also open one hour
before showtime. For more information, call the Publicity Office a 812 237-3334.

Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare and adapted and

University Department of Theater. Performances begin Wednesday, November

Arguably Shakespeare's best known work, the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet
is about two teenage star-crossed lovers whose untimely deaths
ultimately unite their feuding households. ISU Theater takes this
beloved story and adds an exciting twist. In a bold new adaptation, we
are taken back to 1955, where four teenage girls sneak into a classroom
at their New England boarding school to drink, smoke, and rebel against
their oppressive world. When one of them suggests they read Romeo and
Juliet, the girls escape their cold reality into a world of strife,
violence, rebellion, and love. As the line between reality and fantasy
begins to blur, what's to stop the girls from going too far?
