     Among the ranks of ISU graduates this spring were four students from rural Indiana communities who are the first to complete the joint degree program involving Indiana State University and Indiana University’s School of Medicine.

Geography professor to serve as ISU’s provost
     Steven K. Pontius, professor of geography at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn., has been selected as the new provost and vice president for academic affairs at Indiana State University, effective July 1.

Maynard named new School of Education dean
     C. Jack Maynard will take the lead role as dean of Indiana State University’s School of Education, effective July 1.

Eight awarded Support Staff Scholarships
     Eight members of the Indiana State University community were recently awarded Support Staff Scholarships to assist them in pursuing academic degrees while working or raising a family.

Huntingburg student earns John W. Moore Award
     Lisa Kempf, a senior from Huntingburg, has been named the second recipient of the John W. Moore Award, which is given to the most outstanding President’s Scholar at Indiana State University.

Partnerships:  Landsbaum gift breathes life into project
     A $3 million gift from the estate of local real estate developer Morris Landsbaum has made the construction of a regional center for health education a reality.

Sauer to serve as interim A&S dean
     Tom Sauer, associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and associate professor of English, has been named interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana State University.

Jakaitis to replace Levy as Gen Ed coordinator
     Jake Jakaitis, associate professor of English, will add responsibilities as general education coordinator to his duties at Indiana State University, effective July 1.

Moore awarded Distinguished Alumni Award
     John W. Moore, Indiana State University’s 9th president, was recently recognized by his alma mater as a 2001 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient.

Three join Indiana State’s development team
     The office of university development has appointed constituent development officers and a director of planned giving.

Chesebro, others garner Arts and Sciences honors
     James Chesebro, a professor of communication at Indiana State University since 1992, was recently named the College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Professor for 2001.

Reck earns merit award
     Larry Reck, professor of education at Indiana State University, was recently honored with the Sena Kautz Merit Award, sponsored by the Association for Indiana Media Educators (AIME) and the Indiana Library Federation.

     Continuing the Legacy, Indiana State’s capital campaign in support of its intercollegiate athletics program, has made tremendous progress toward reaching its $2.65 million goal since the commencement of its public phase in late October of last year.

Scholarship gave Pillow the chance of a lifetime
     George Pillow knows a lot about assists – both as the creator and the recipient – from his days playing guard for the Sycamore men’s basketball team in the late ‘60s.
