RESEARCH SHOWCASE
SET FOR APRIL 6-7

Indiana
State University will showcase the research efforts of its students as part of
the fifth annual Undergraduate/Graduate Research Showcase April 6-7 at the
Hulman Memorial Student Union. Students will be competing for more than $4,000
in prizes.
The
showcase, sponsored by the School of Graduate Studies in conjunction with the
University Honors Program, will feature research papers and posters in five
categories of competition: Life Science and Medical Science; Earth Science,
Physical Science and Technology; Fine Arts and Humanities; Education, Business
and Social Science; and Poster Presentations.
The
showcase is designed to recognize, promote and reward critical thinking,
problem-solving skills and creativity, as well as to provide an opportunity for
oral and written communication.
Christine
Branche, director of the Division of Unintentional Injury Prevention at the
Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention in Atlanta, Ga., will be the
keynote speaker for the event on Friday, April 6.
Branche has done extensive work
in the area of injury control and prevention in drowning, water
recreation, sports and recreation and fire-related injury prevention. Her
scientific investigations include drowning and near-drowning in adults and
children, personal water craft, boating, water recreation-related spinal cord
injuries and falls in older adults and among construction workers.
