A
veteran reporter, anchor, talk-show host and
radio-television news director, Edwards has over two decades of experience
in broadcast and print media. He says he first developed “broadcasting
fever” as a young man spending time, and later working, at Chicago’s
Wrigley Field. The early desire to be a sports announcer was fostered by
daily exposure to the likes of Jack Brickhouse and Vince Lloyd.
While still a college
student, the Illinois native garnered his first by-line with the Chicago
Daily News during the tumultuous 1968 Democratic National Convention.
Upon graduation from
Southern Illinois University, Edwards began his broadcast career at KMOX
in Saint Louis and honed his skills at a series of Midwest radio and
television stations including WZZQ, WBOW and NewsChannel Two in Terre
Haute. He also worked as a political media advisor, commercial copywriter,
producer and talent for several commercials and industrial films.
He has hosted a number
of TV telethons for organizations like the Arthritis Foundation and is
currently lending his talents to PBS-affiliate WTIU’s fundraising
efforts.
While pursuing a
graduate degree at Indiana State University, Edwards was named associate
director of Public Affairs in 1998. In
addition to his administrative role, Edwards produces a wide variety of
audio and video for broadcast and other presentations. He also teaches
selected broadcast courses in ISU’s department of communication.
For several years,
Edwards has produced and hosted Leadership Terre Haute’s Valley Point of View television program, which airs weekly on WBAK
and Time-Warner Cable. He
also is actively involved with the production of ISU’s coaches’ shows
on WTWO-TV.
He is a longtime
member of the Radio-Television News Directors Association and has
conducted several presentations on ethics and the media over the past
several years.
Edwards
lives in Terre Haute with his wife, Darby. The couple has a married
daughter who lives and works in Indianapolis.
