"I am very pleased to have Gregg Floyd join our senior administrative team. He brings a wealth of management experience and a strong financial background that will be beneficial to our operations at a time of financial challenges for the State of Indiana and its public higher education system," said Benjamin. The vice president for business affairs and finance position replaces the former position of vice president for planning and budgets. In this expanded role, Floyd will serve as the university's chief financial officer with responsibility for development of the institution's budget, the biennial legislative operating and capital requests, management and financial reporting of all fiscal operations, facilities management, environmental safety, university properties and risk management. As treasurer, he will serve as an officer of the Board of Trustees and is directly responsible for the investment of university funds and issuance and oversight of university debt. Floyd will begin his duties August 1. "I think there are many positive things happening at Indiana State. I have been very impressed with the warmth and genuine nature of everyone I have had the opportunity to meet at ISU. There are many positive reasons why this is a very attractive opportunity for me," said Floyd. Floyd began his career as a staff accountant for an accounting firm in Indianapolis and joined Indiana University's staff in 1975 as senior internal auditor. In 1979, he was promoted to assistant director of finance for the residence hall system, and in 1982, he was named assistant business manager. He has served as the chief business officer for the Bloomington campus administrative affairs division since 1984. The new vice president indicated that he is eager to help build Indiana State's case for state support. "I am very excited for the opportunity to work with the state's leadership regarding the importance of higher education. I believe most agree that it is a crucial resource of the state, and view it as one of the highest priorities. I know the leadership team at ISU is committed to elevating the prominence of the campus in the state's overall commitment to education. My hope is to build a strong and collaborative working relationship with the people both inside and outside Indiana State University to further support for the many positive programs of the campus. At the same time, we need to continue to be aware of opportunities to address the educational needs of the state." Floyd indicated his management style will be one of openness. "I feel pretty strongly about being accessible and encouraging people to share their views and opinions. I don't have to agree with someone to respect them, but it is very important that a person feels they have the right to be heard on matters of importance, and I respect that very highly," he said. A certified public accountant, Floyd earned a bachelor's in business in 1973, an MBA in finance in 1986 and a law degree in 2001 - all from Indiana University. Born in Iowa, he is the son of a university professor. His family moved to Indiana when he was a small child. He and his wife, Janet, have four grown children and three grandchildren. -30- ISU
