International Education Week Nov. 18-22

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — As International Education Week winds down, it is important to note that this has really been “International Education Semester,” says Gaston Fernandez, executive director of the International Affairs Center at ISU.

In addition to ISU delegations visiting overseas and other delegations coming to campus and Terre Haute to further develop those relationships, international students at ISU have focused on educating others on campus about their cultures and learning more about the United States while living and studying here. That’s what International Education Week is all about.

Activities that happened during the week included:

  • Community outreach programs: international students were invited to public schools to participate in a class presentation to explore the cultures of different countries and to share music, food, language art with public school students.

  • A workshop in immigration issues: The International Affairs Center sponsored an educational workshop about  employment based visa options for foreign nationals studying in the United States. The workshop was presented by Rund and Wunsch, attorneys at law.

  • Diversity and video series presentation: The Office of Diversity and Affirmative Action continued its weekly multicultural video series entitled “American Cultures.” It provides a basic understanding of the diverse geography, history and traditions of a different culture each week.

  • India Global Night: The India Student Association presented a well-attended India Global Night in the Hulman Memorial Student Union. The programs included door prizes, exotic Indian food, henna tattoos, Bharatnatyam — classical Indian dance, a fashion show, flute recital, power point presentation and music.

For more information about any of these programs, call the International Affairs Center at (812) 237-2440.
