University Advancement garners
three APEX awards

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The ISU Division of University Advancement was awarded three 2002 Apex Awards of Excellence for work in the Office of Public Affairs and the ISU Alumni Magazine. Public Affairs won in the category of "Annual Report -- One to Two Person Produced," and the ISU Magazine was recognized for "Magazines and Journals -- Printed Four Color" and "Feature Writing."

The Office of Public Affairs' annual report was produced by Maria Greninger, associate director, and Tony Campbell, photojournalist, via the web and on CD-ROM. This was the first annual report ever produced by the office, and since it was produced electronically, it more adequately described the office's diverse responsibilities and showcased examples of its work.

The annual report is online at the Office of Public Affairs website at http://isunews.indstate.edu or directly at http://web.indstate.edu/news/REPORT/ Martin Blank, director of administrative communications, is also editor of the ISU Magazine, which is published bi-annually. This is not the first time the magazine has received an APEX award, taking one home in 2001 for "Personality Feature."

This year's "Feature Story" award was for an article entitled "Plugged In!" written by ISU alumna Luanne Berk ('83) of Indianapolis. Berk was asked by Blank to freelance write the story for the Winter 2002 issue about the electronic life of today's students.

According to the APEX 2002 judges, "The awards were based on excellence in graphic design, quality of editorial content and the success of the entry in conveying the message and achieving overall communications effectiveness."
