Concert Choir prepares for performance in Carnegie Hall

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. The ISU Concert Choir is busy preparing for an opportunity of a lifetime – a solo performance in New York City’s Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall.

MidAmerica Productions issued the invitation to ISU based on a tape submitted by Scott Buchanan, director of choral activities. The ISU Concert Choir will perform in two of the three sections of a concert April 4 – solo and as part of a mass choir.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their talent and ISU," Buchanan said.

While there will be time to see the sights, the group’s focus is the concert and all the preparation that goes along with it. In every case, choruses in residence with MidAmerica must participate in two three-hour rehearsals with piano and a dress rehearsal in Carnegie Hall.

Buchanan hopes to raise enough money to do a series of performances in conjunction with the New York City honor. One stop he looks forward to making is to his hometown of Cranford, N.J.

Fundraising for the tour is underway. Donations are greatly appreciated and can be made to the ISU Foundation – Friends of Music. For more information, call the music department at 237-2771.
