TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Larry S. Anderson, founder and director of the National Center for Technology Planning, is the 15th annual Van Til Lecturer at Indiana State University. Anderson will discuss the integration of technology into education at a presentation at 4 p.m. April 9 in the 11th Floor Conference Room in the School of Education. He will offer insights to teachers, faculty and school administrators on what might be done to better utilize technology in education. The title of Anderson’s presentation is “Technology and Social Justice: Unsettling Contemplations.” Anderson will discuss the concepts of dignity, understanding, decency, civility, criticism and fairness and how they apply to the online world. There will also be the presentation of the $500 Van Til Writing Award to an ISU graduate student. The lecture will be followed by a wine and cheese reception. On April 8, Anderson will visit several Vigo County elementary, middle and high schools. Anderson is an expert in pre-service teacher education and instructional technology. A long-time innovator with educational projects, he has founded numerous organizations and provided leadership roles in a variety of professional associations. He co-founded Apple-SWAP, an international public domain software clearinghouse, in the early days of micro-computing so that teachers could have easy access to a vast collection of inexpensive computer programs. He is co-founder and the initial president of Mississippi Educational Computing Association (MECA), the only professional association in Mississippi devoted specifically to the needs of classroom teachers at all levels. He also founded Pre-service and Student Teachers Online (PreSTO), an immensely successful Internet discussion group that supports about 1,000 users and offers a worldwide forum in which pre-service teacher education majors can discuss study topics. The presentation is part of the Willey Colloquium series. For more information, contact Melissa Nail at (812) 237-2848 or eenail@isugw.indstate.edu -30- Contact: Writer: ISU
