John Lustig, curator
ISU's Permanent Art Collection



John Lustig born and raised in Chicago, received his bachelor of arts in fine art and illustration from Columbia College, Chicago. In 1995, he received his masters in fine art in painting and drawing from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.

He taught art for two years to grades K-8 at two suburban parochial schools. He was also adjunct faculty teaching art history/art appreciation, drawing, painting, and color theory at various community colleges in metropolitan Chicago.

In 1995 he was a founding member of Chicago Southland Arts Incubator in Chicago Heights, Ill. A not-for-profit art center featuring both a gallery and studio component for artists serving an underserved community. As curator of exhibitions, he continues to be an advocate for the arts by bringing in national juried shows and providing an exhibition venue for emerging and established artists.

John has worked as a freelance illustrator and storyboard artist and as a painter in the medium of egg tempera , oil, and watercolor. His work has appeared in various national exhibitions and is included in several public and private permanent collections.

As curator of visual and permanent collections at Indiana State University, John is responsible for the University holdings of the permanent art collection, The WPA Collection, The Martin Photography Collection, and The Harold Carson Collection. He also serves as director for the Hulman Memorial Student Union Gallery.
