Opaque stoneware dishes
The historical treasure this week is a photo of a set of opaque stoneware dishes. This set of dishes was a wedding gift to Nellie Layne from her mother. The dishes were given to the museum by Layne’s daughter, Jenny Schepper. The dishes were used on Sundays and on holidays, and during planting and harvest when farm hands gathered at the table with the family.
The Historical Museum of the Wabash Valley, 1411 S. Sixth St., is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
